I'll add a few of them to the macfusion GUI directly before v2.0 is final, possibly making them default.Īlso, try -o negative_vncache. This has made it super snappy, so do try these options!Įdit: mgorbach - I haven't had a chance to nab the source yet. Just add " -o no_readahead,noappledouble,nolocalcaches" in the extra Sshfs -o no_readahead,noappledouble,nolocalcaches /mount/ The lonely needed is noappledouble but I noticed some improvements Here are the options I used to get it working like a charm. Maybe that's because I miss some keywords in this new apple world - View image here:. As this does not append when browsing in non apple nativeĪpps (jEdit or shell), I suspected some finder issues and not the Macfuse! (too nostalgic of the kio kde layer.) In fact I was veryĭisappointed to see that the finder browsing get really slow on a

I am quite newbie to Mac Os and the first thing I installed was To sum up MacFUSION (the OPs very handy app) is that it is in fact a wrapper for MacFUSE - that is it allows you to do these actions from within the gui, without having to dive into the terminal and it does so in a very user friendly way - with sharp icons (hey that's important!) NTFS-3g enables your OS X machine to write locally to an NTFS formatted drive and that's all.

All data transmissions between your work Apple and home windows machine would be encrypted and safe, and you'd have the security of knowing that only SSH is open at your home machine.

However, if you want to have transmission from say your home computer to your work Apple and you wanted to do so without exposing your computer or the files that you're transferring you could install SSH on your windows machine at home and then using MacFUSE + MacFUSION you could use the handy drop down menu to configure and then connect and then mount inside of finder your windows pc share over SSHFS. So you don't need MacFUSE or MacFUSION or ntfs-3g for that.

OS X uses SAMBA to connect to CIFS shares and reads and writes to those drives that way. If you're trying to mount an NTFS drive over the network then it's probably connected to a windows machine using CIFS (SMB). If you want to, you'd need to install MacFUSE and ntfs-3g. You can read it just fine from OS X but you can't write to it. Same as with a Bootcamp windows partition. Once you have those two things installed and you plug in that drive, not only will you be able to read that drive but you'll be able to write to it as well. If you wanted to read and write to that drive you'd need to only install MacFuse and NTFS-3g. If you have an NTFS usb key or usb drive or firewire drive (unlikely) and you want to be able to plug it in and read it, you don't need anything. I had to rewrite my entire post because its late and I'm tired. Some way besides disabling icon preview system wide.ĭoes that mean in order to use Macfusion to mount NTFS drive you need to install MacFuse and ntfs-3g first?Īrgh. I wish there was some way to speed up sshfs mounts in leopard. So if you can ssh to your windows machine, it'll mount the drive like a local sshfs mount even though the drive itself is formatted ntfs. Plugins allow it to do the same with a plethora of other things like encfs. It mounts sshfs, and ftpfs mounts and integrates them into finder like mounted drives. I guess I'm having trouble grasping what MacFusion is for then (and I'm not really getting it from reading the site either). I was just asking if this could be used as part of/instead of those two. You don't need MacFusion for that, you just need MacFUSE and ntfs-3g Possibly a dumb question, but can this be used as part of a setup to enable read/write access to NTFS drives on a Mac (whether an internal NTFS partition or a USB/FW NTFS drive)? If so, how would one go about doing that? "Connect to server" dialog in the main UI. Mount SSH or FTP, read/write, on your mac Plugin-based user interface to MacFuse filesystems
